There are two ones that don't have screenshots that it might be:
I searched using the site you pointed me to, and still can't find it (at least not among the ones that have screenshots. It may be a tank game that didn't even contain the word "tank" in the title.
I already checked the games listed on that start with the word Tank as found in and none of them are the one I was thinking of. So I'm now turning my hopes to the people on this forum. But the first most basic Google searches I did, with the search strings "commodore 64 tank game", "commodore64 tank game", and "c64 tank game" (without the quotes for all of these searches) have proved to be fruitless efforts. I was hoping to find the disk image of this game on the net, or at least find screencaps of it or the name of the game, so that I would have a starting point for further searches. I'm trying to find several nostalgic games I remember from back then, starting with this tank game. Of course my parents eventually got rid of the C64 in the early 1990s (maybe even in the year 1990, I don't remember exactly) when they got their first PC. I remember playing it on my parent's C64 in the late 1980s when I was a very very very young child (I turned 5 in 1990). I think it even had a level editor mode that you could enter, but I don't think I ever figured out how to use it. The view was from above looking down, like looking at a map. There were various enemy tanks that would try to shoot and destroy you.
There were various obstacles you had to drive around or you crashed if I remember correctly. As you played, it would progress from left to right through the level. I think in the first level your tank started in the upper left corner of the screen. I remember its graphics only had various shades of blue (at least in the first level, and I never made it to the end of level-1).
